Episode 3 – Covid 19, Fear and Social breakdown

This 3rd film about daily life in post-pandemic Senegal takes a close look at the reality of Covid-19 in Senegal: from lockdowns through medical care and the vaccination programme. We meet people who give the inside story of how the biomedical policies of lockdowns created a “Hellish circle” and ruptured bonds across society at many levels. This created a huge lack of trust in the state among young people, which means that very many became scared of Covid vaccination – as we see, with medical staff urging people to get vaccinated, in front of empty streets.
Collateral Global has commissioned 14 short films from the Senegalese journalist and photographer Mamadou Ndiaye. These will look across the range of impacts of the political, economic and social responses to the Covid-19 pandemic in Senegal. They will lead to a longer feature-length film to be called Daily Life in Post-Pandemic Senegal.
