Panel 2

Panel 2: The Impact of Covid Restrictions on Low – and Middle-Income Countries

Conference Hub

Speakers discussed the impact of COVID-19 on household productivity and labor relations, as well as the challenges and polarization surrounding lockdowns. They highlighted the importance of community-led initiatives in promoting inclusive economic growth and resilience, and emphasized the need for social scientists and communication specialists in the decision-making process. Speakers also discussed the intersectional approach to race, gender, and class, and the role of communities in many different ways, including community-based healthcare. Overall, the speakers articulated various perspectives on the impact of COVID-19 on society, including its effectiveness, fairness, and consequences for marginalized communities. This conference is the first anywhere in the world to consider collectively the impacts of Covid suppression measures in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. The conference brings together scholars from the health and social sciences who have been working on questions regarding education, gender, socioeconomic impacts and political economies related to the Covid response. While there has been much focus on these questions in High Income Countries, there has yet to be a sustained and inter-regional discussion from Low- and Middle-Income Countries. This conference addresses this disparity.
