About Toby Green

Toby Green is a professor of African history at King’s College London and has conducted research in 9 countries across Africa. His previous book, A Fistful of Shells, was awarded several international literary prizes as well as being shortlisted for the LA Times Book Prize and the Wolfson History Prize. He has written widely about the Covid- 19 pandemic for outlets including African Arguments, Prospect, and UnHerd, and is a member of the steering group of Collateral Global. His book The Covid Consensus: The Global Assault on Democracy and the Poor – A Critique from the Left, co-authored with Thomas Fazi, was published in January 2023.

Frances E. Lee is professor of politics and public affairs at Princeton University. Her research focuses on U.S. national politics and policymaking, especially on the Congress. She is author of Insecure Majorities: Congress and the Perpetual Campaign (2016) and Beyond Ideology: Politics, Principles, and Partisanship in the U.S. Senate (2009). In addition, she is coauthor of In Covid’s Wake: How Our Politics Failed Us (2025), The Limits of Party: Congress and Lawmaking in a Polarized Era (2020), Sizing Up The Senate: The Unequal Consequences of Equal Representation (1999) and a textbook, Congress and Its Members. Her research has appeared in the American Political Science Review, Perspectives on Politics, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, and other outlets. She is the recipient of the American Political Science Association’s Gladys M. Kammerer Award for the best book on American national policy and its Richard F. Fenno prize for the best book in legislative studies. She is also a two-time recipient of the D.B. Hardeman Prize presented by the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation for the best book on Congress. She is editor of the Cambridge Elements Series in American Politics and a series editor for the Chicago Studies in American Politics. In 2002-2003, she worked on Capitol Hill as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow. In 2019 she was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Stephen Macedo is the Laurance S. Rockefeller Professor of Politics and the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University. He teaches and writes on ethics, political theory, and public policy, American constitutional theory and practice, and issues around global justice including immigration. His most recent book is the co-authored, In Covid’s Wake: How Our Politics Failed Us (Princeton University Press, March 2025) which has received extensive public attention. His other books include Liberal Virtues: Citizenship, Virtue, and Community in Liberal Constitutionalism (1990); Diversity and Distrust: Civic Education in a Multicultural Democracy (2000); and Just Married: Same-Sex Couples, Monogamy, and the Future of Marriage (2015). He has co-authored, edited, or co-edited more than twenty other books on topics ranging from the legacy of the 1960’s to evolution and morality. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 2014, and the American Academy of Sciences and Letters since 2024, he is also immediate past-President of the American Society for Political and Legal Philosophy, and a former vice president of the American Political Science Association.
