During our fieldwork in the Wazirpur industrial area in Delhi, we looke at the lives of Shramiks (workers) in the Area.  The residents of Wazirpur and Badli slums are subjected to an extremely poor lifestyle owing to the underdeveloped and unhygienic environment of their homes. In this story, we also look at the lifestyle of the workers.

Pressed in Steel: Part I

Wazirpur is one of 29 industrial areas spread across the National Capital Region. Not until the past 20 years, Wazirpur industrial area was barren land with hardly any inhabitants. The place has now become crowded with small-scale factories attracting a large population of migrants usually from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal. In this Photo essay, we look at the lives of Shramiks (workers) in the Wazirpur Industrial Area.

Thousands of jhuggis are built around the major industrial areas
of Wazirpur and Badli. People here lack what most consider to be fundamental necessities. The scant resources available in these slums are getting even more exhausted and worn down as the population grows dramatically. In this Photo essay, we look at the lifestyle of Shramiks (workers) in the Wazirpur Industrial Area.

Migrant workers in India know hardship all too well. With the paltry income they make from work, any dilapidated shelter becomes home. While barely earning a sustainable income, they are unable to buy accommodation even in slum communities. The residents of Wazirpur and Badli slums are subjected to an extremely poor lifestyle owing to the underdeveloped and unhygienic environment of their jhuggis.
