Retired Priest Harmed in Catholic Retirement Home
I’m a retired Catholic priest, recovering then from spine surgery and total knee replacement. The Archdiocese placed me at St. John of God retirement home in Los Angeles, where I caught Covid in December of 2020. The staff practically ignored many of us residents, and even when I ordered hydroxychloroquine for myself by mail, they refused to allow me its use because it was “experimental.” I was so sick I called on a nephew in Nashville, Tennessee to get me out of there. He kindly flew out, brought me back with him and other family joined in to help me recover. I’m back in Los Angeles now, but that trauma convinced me I’d seriously think twice with a lot of legal restrictions before allowing a retirement home to take charge of my health.
